Blitz - 2008/02/02 11:21 Brian,

Just purchased Blitz basketball and really enjoyed it (been up all night pondering the ideas). If I am understanding the ideas taught, the offensive philosophy works against a zone as well? Are there any tweaks for against a zone? Also, what about the fast break meshing into the initial offensive set? I have always tried to limit the rules on a fast break especially regarding where each player has to run, would you recommend sending the players to the spots on the initial offensive set, or run free then get to the spots if nothing is there?

By the way, I love the defensive philosophy in Blitz. I was the defensive stopper in college on my team, and it is so refreshing to see some logical thinking into teaching defense, and using defense as a weapon.

The two tweaks I use against a zone are (1) looking back to the passer who fills behind the dribble and (2) giving my trailer and post more freedom to cut. Basically, I want the trailer to cut backdoor at least to the elbow area, low post or short corner and the ball to reverse from wing to wing.

Transition is fairly simple, with the post running rim to rim; the wings get wide; if they don't get the ball early, they fill the corners; if the point guard passes ahead, he tails - otherwise, he brings up the ball with a trailer to the other side and initiates the offense quickly with one of the options. Of course do what works best for your personnel. Personally, I am not a big secondary transition guy, like many others.
